Individual and Family Giving
Donate to NCFL
Making a contribution to NCFL and family literacy is one of the best ways to ensure that families struggling with low literacy are getting the support they need.
Donating online is quick and easy. NCFL accepts Visa, American Express and Mastercard.
You can also send your gift through the mail. Simply fill out this form, make checks payable to NCFL, and send to:
National Center for Family Literacy
325 West Main Street, Suite 300
Louisville, KY 40202-4237
Monthly Giving
By committing a few dollars each month to family literacy, you will be making a great impact on NCFL’s ability to help low-literate parents and children. Those few dollars each month add up to a momentum of change. Best of all, it is requires minimum effort on your part to maintain the donations: by setting up your monthly giving plan online, the amount will automatically be deducted from your account each month. NCFL will send you an acknowledgment each time a gift is made so that you can keep the appropriate records for your taxes. To set up your monthly giving, please visit NCFL’s online donation page and be sure to choose the “Monthly Donation” option.
Make a tribute gift
Sometimes the best gift you can give to someone you care for is to give to others in his or her honor. You can make an honorarium gift by filling out this form, or by making a tribute donation on the online donation page. Be sure to choose the “In Honor Of” option. The honored individual will receive a letter in the mail notifying him or her of your gift.
You can also honor the memory of a passed loved one by making a gift in memoriam. Follow the same directions for making a gift in honorarium, but be sure to choose the “In Memory Of” option. The memorialized individual’s family will be notified of your gift via mail.

Start a matching gift campaign
Making a donation is great, but why not double the strength of your giving by engaging in a matching gift campaign with your company? Many companies sponsor matched giving programs in which employers will match employees’ donations on a one-to-one or two-to-one basis. By rallying your coworkers for literacy, you can raise a lot of money for families in need. Or, you alone can donate and ask your employer to match your gift. Either way, a matching gift is a great way to make a huge impact.
Make a planned gift
Including NCFL in your retirement plans, will, living trust or related methods offers an opportunity for you to extend your legacy of learning to future generations.
Planned gifts—large and small—are a lasting way to help families start their own legacy of learning. To learn more about how to arrange a planned gift to NCFL, please e-mail Emily Kirkpatrick, Vice President, or call (502) 584-1133.
Make an in-kind donation
In-kind gifts can offset the recurring costs NCFL experiences in its day-to-day operations and allow NCFL to make the best use of every dollar. Areas of need include:
- Printing
- Travel (lodging, air travel vouchers, car rental)
- Technology (new computers, presentation hardware)
- Books (new books for families)
For more information about in-kind donations, please e-mail Andrea Peters, Development Specialist, or call (502) 584-1133.
Invest with the Davlin Fund
The Davlin Philanthropic Fund is a socially conscious business with the mission of harvesting the power of mutual funds to create “sustainable giving.” As a chosen charity of the Davlin Fund, NCFL receives the bulk of annual fees that normally get paid to the mutual fund management company. There is a plethora of both new and continuing literacy initiatives happening at NCFL. NCFL always welcomes both public and private support for its model programming and outreach efforts designed to research and implement new solutions that increase literacy rates for families. There are also opportunities to fund projects that make a strategic impact on specific communities, the literacy field, and/or one-time organization needs. Visit the current initiatives page to see a full list of NCFL’s current programs and projects.
