Mobile Devices May Be Next Wave in Education

From South Carolina Now, a story about taking education directly to students—via their cell phones. “This is what [students are] using at home and have heard a lot about, but we, the school systems, have not been stepping up,” said Dallas Dance, director of school improvement in Chesterfield County, Virginia. “Our primary goal is to increase student achievement, and we want to increase it by engaging students through these 21st-century tools.”

We reported yesterday about the new Toyota Family Literacy Program in Lincoln, NE. The Lincoln Journal-Star has a story up on yesterday’s event, which includes quotes from program participants. Congratulations again to Lincoln Public Schools!

 

The 2009 Cybils Winners

On Booklights Jen Robinson has a list of the 2009 Cybils winners. FYI: “Cybils are a series of book awards given by children's and young adult literature bloggers. The awards are given to the books that panelists feel provide the best balance of literary merit and kid-appeal. This year, there are twelve winning titles, in categories ranging from easy readers to poetry to middle grade graphic novels to young adult fiction.”
