This week we announced 4 grant/award opportunities, so this week’s Literacy Voices Roundup will be a recap of these opportunities from NCFL and some of our wonderful literacy partners. 2010 Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year

About the award: The winner will receive $7,500 for his or her family literacy program as well as a free trip to the 2010 National Conference on Family Literacy in San Antonio, Texas.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grants

About the award: The Foundation funds family literacy programs in each of the 35 states where they have stores and is offering grants up to $20,000 to family literacy service providers. Summer Reading Grants for up to $3,000 are also available.

About the award: Grants of $5,000 each to 70 public libraries in Dollar General communities will be awarded this spring. To be eligible for funding, the applicant institution must be a public library, or a public library with a bookmobile providing literacy services for adult English language learners.

Cooney Center Prizes for Innovation in Children's Learning

The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop
About the award: A national competition intended to identify, inspire, nurture, and scale breakthrough ideas in children's digital media and learning. The program will annually award cash prizes and provide ongoing business planning support to innovators in children's educational media. This year's prizes include $50,000 towards prototype development in the Mobile Learning category and $10,000 and the opportunity to work with Sesame Workshop to turn a literacy idea into a product for national dissemination via Sesame Workshop's revival of the iconic literacy show, The Electric Company.
